'Scientists Made Progress in Cloning Other Animals’

The government says scientists at Seoul National University have made substantial progress in cloning animals other than dogs and wolves.

Science and Technology Minister Kim Woo-sik visited laboratories at the leading university's College of Veterinary Medicine on Monday.

Kim said that the nation has made exceptional progress in animal cloning technology but declined to elaborate at the school’s request.

He predicted that the veterinary school would help propel the nation’s science to the ranks of advanced nations.

The science and technology minister went on to say that the school quickly overcame the crisis following Hwang Woo-suk's research fabrication scandal.

He promised continued and regular support for the animal cloning research team led by SNU Professor Lee Byeong-cheon.
