The Science and Technology Ministry is conducting an emergency checkup of a nuclear power plant in Uljin, which is located close to where a quake hit Saturday evening.
The ministry said Sunday that the plant is operating as usual, and that the quake was not strong enough to affect operations, though it was not a small tremor.
The checkup was done in preparation for a potential crisis and experts continue to conduct safety checks.
The country's nuclear plants are designed to stand quakes measuring up to 6.5 in magnitude. Alarms go off if the gravity acceleration level exceeds 0.01 degrees, and plant operations halt automatically at 0.1 degrees.
The ministry said the gravity acceleration level is 0.0055 degrees, which is not a threat to the safety of the plant.
