The 23rd Winter Universiade has kicked off for an eleven-day run in the Italian city of Turin.

Some 27-hundred athletes from 52 countries will compete in eleven events for 73 gold medals.

The nation’s 123-member team is aiming for second in the overall medal standings in five sports --- skating, skiing, ice hockey, curling and the biathlon.
