A domestically developed space telescope will be loaded onto a Russian satellite.

A team led by Ewha Woman's University Professor Park Il-hong says the telescope will go on a satellite that will launch in October, marking the 50th anniversary of the world's first satellite Sputnik, which was launched by the former Soviet Union.

The semiconductor space telescope will be mainly used to discover why and how lightning can occur on a massive scale in the upper atmosphere.

The next-generation telescope, made of numerous pieces of micro silicon mirrors, can recognize and track various targets simultaneously.
