Korea Univ. Wins Gov't Project to Make Builder Robot

Korea University has won a government order worth 23 billion won to develop cutting-edge construction technology.

The university's departments in electrical and electronics, mechanical, and construction engineering will join some 20 partner organizations including Doosan Industrial Development and Samsung Corporation in developing by 2011 a huge crane robot to be used in welding iron frames.

Korea University Professor Park Gwi-tae who heads the project says the world-class automated construction system is expected to reduce workloads by 30 percent and building time by 15 percent but boost productivity by 25 percent.
