Talks on Unified Olympic Team Fails to Open

An inter-Korean meeting to discuss fielding a unified team for the 2008 Beijing Olympics is unlikely to come this year.

Seoul's Korean Olympic Committee said Thursday that during their third talks on the issue. which were held on the sidelines of the Asian Games in Doha, North Korea had agreed to hold a fourth meeting within the year and notify Seoul of the date and venue for the meeting.

The South Korean committee said that the North has failed to send any notice, darkening the prospects for sending a unified team for regional preliminaries in ball games.

In the second and third inter-Korean talks, the two sides agreed to field a unified team in seven ball games including soccer and volleyball.
