The International Olympic Committee says the two Koreas are making tangible progress in talks on fielding a unified team for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.

The IOC in a statement said the Olympic committees of the two Koreas have made significant progress in a meeting at IOC headquarters in September.

The statement said it is encouraging to see sport and Olympic ideals facilitate the formation of an inter-Korean unified team.

The IOC pledged to continue supporting the Olympic committees of the two Koreas to create a joint team, and negotiate with international sports federations once both Koreas sign an agreement.
