Cloning Scientist’s Next Goal: Genetic Modification

A Seoul National University research team that successfully cloned three female dogs says its next goal is to clone genetically modified dogs with human diseases for medical research.

The head of the veterinary research team Lee Byeong-cheon told reporters that successful cloning of female dogs, after the first cloned male dog, Snuppy, would help them verify whether the cloned dogs can reproduce.

Lee claimed that his team achieved a success rate of 25 percent in cloning and up to 90 percent in cell fusion.
