The government has notified electronics firms and telecom operators of potential disruptions in satellite and shortwave communications due to recent massive explosions on the surface of the sun.

The Ministry of Information and Communications says that high energy particles thrown by the sunspot explosions began affecting the earth Thursday night, Korean time, and are expected to last about a week.

However, cell phone use should be normal with no major effects on people's daily lives.
