S. Korea Secures 2nd Place in Asian Games

The nation retained its second place in the 15th Asian Games medal tally as it continued to bag gold medals on Thursday.

Both the men’s volleyball and hockey teams clinched the gold after defeating their Chinese rivals with the same score of three to one in Doha, Qatar.

In fencing, South Korea won the Asian Games title in both men's and women's team competitions. In wrestling, Baek Jin-kuk beat Japan's Takafumi Kojima three to zero for the gold medal in the 66-kilogram freestyle match.

Meanwhile, Lee Hyung-taek, ranked number one in Asia, settled for a silver medal in men's tennis singles after he was defeated in straight sets by Thailand's Danai Udomchoke.

South Korea, which has claimed 58 gold medals as of Thursday, has sealed its second-place spot in the 15th Asiad which will wrap up a 15-day run on Saturday.

The South Korean athletes will return home on Sunday.

The next Asian Games will be held in Guangzhou, China in 2010.
