South Korea’s Park Jae-myoung clinched the gold medal in the men's javelin event in Doha Tuesday, earning the nation’s first gold in a track and field event at the Asian Games.
Park won the Asian title after throwing 79-point-30 meters, over Japan's Yukifumi Murakami who threw 78-point-15 meters.
In archery, Im Dong-hyun won the men's individual event after beating Japan's Tomokazu Wakino 108 to 100 in the finals.
Meanwhile, cyclists Jang Sun-jae, Hwang In-hyeok, Kim Dong-hun and Park Sung-baek bagged the gold after completing the 4-kilometer race with a time of 4 minutes, 12-point-746 seconds to set a new Asian record, not to mention a new Asian Games record.
In women’s fencing, Nam Hyun-hee and Seo Mi-jeong each grabbed a silver medal at women’s individual foil matches.
On the soccer field, the national team’s hopes for the finals were dashed after they lost to Iraq one to zero.
South Korea currently has 47 gold medals, ranking second in the medal tally behind China.
