Korean Rider Dies after Equestrian Cross-Country Event in Doha

Korean horseman Kim Hyung-chil died from injuries sustained during the equestrian cross-country competition at the 15th Asian Games in Doha on Thursday. He was 47.

The rider's horse fell on top of him when it failed to clear an obstacle at the Doha Racing and Equestrian Club.

Kim was rushed to a nearby hospital immediately after the accident, but died shortly after arrival without recovering consciousness.

Experts attribute the accident in part to slippery ground caused by rain.

Kim has been a member of Korea's equestrian team since the 1986 Asian Games in Seoul. He won a silver medal in the team competition at the 2002 Busan Asiad.
