North Korea has pledged support for South Korea’s bid to host the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, Gangwon Province.
According to Governor Kim Jin-sun, the North agreed to help his province win the bid. Kim told reporters Tuesday that he won the agreement during a four-day visit to Pyongyang from Wednesday to Saturday.
Under the agreement, North Korea shared the view that Pyeongchang’s hosting of the Olympics would promote peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, and promised to lend support to the bid.
The two Koreas will consider forming a single team, and participate in the opening and closing ceremonies together if the 2014 Winter Olympic Games take place in South Korea.
The 2014 Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Games Bid Committee will submit the agreement with North Korea to the International Olympic Committee with its bid application.
