NK Proposes Inter-Korean Sports Talks at Doha

North Korea has proposed South and Norht Korea march together at the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2006 Asian Games next month in Doha, Qatar. It has also suggested holding talks there between South and North Korean sports officials.

The Unification Ministry in Seoul says that North Korean Olympic Committee Chairman Mun Jae-dok sent a telegram to his South Korean counterpart last week proposing talks on the Asian Games' joint march and fielding a unified team for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

The Pyongyang official said that his country would send an eight-member delegation to Doha for the proposed inter-Korean talks.

The Seoul government is looking into the motive for the proposal while ministerial consultations are known to be positively reviewing it.
