Yomiuri Re-signs Slugger Lee for 4 Years

Baseball slugger Lee Seung-yeop has signed a four-year contract with Japan's Yomiuri Giants.

The team has made an official announcement on its Web site that Lee will stay with the Giants.

The contract stipulates that Yomiuri will help Lee go to the U.S. pro league if the Giants win the Japanese championship.

The player's father Lee Chun-gwang said he heard the Japanese team offered the same financial terms as it did to Hideki Matsui, now with the New York Yankees, and that Yomiuri recognizes his son as its top batter.

Thus the 30-year-old batter's salary next year is expected to reach between 500 million to 600 million yen.

This past season, Lee Seung-yeop lead the Giants in hitting average with .323 and in homers with 41.
