A Japanese sports daily reports that South Korean slugger Lee Seung-yeop and Japanese baseball’s Yomiuri Giants are seeking a multi-year contract with an option for Lee to move to a U.S. Major League team.
Sports Nippon reported on the web that they would have to reach a compromise since Lee expressed a desire to play for the major leagues while Yomiuri asked for a multi-year contract.
The daily expected that the new deal would allow Lee to move to the major leagues if Yomiuri wins the Japanese league championship.
Although some anticipated Yomiuri would pay a billion yen for a three-year contract, it has not been decided whether the contract would be for two years or three.
Japanese media projected that, if the South Korean player signs a two-year contract, Yomiuri would offer seven-hundred million yen as it did to top Japanese player Hiroki Kokubo.
