Female Lifter Jang Defends World Title

Female weightlifter Jang Mi-ran has defended her world title.

At the World Weightlifting Championship in the Dominican Republic, Jang won the women's 75-kilogram category by winning the clean and jerk and combined weight.

The 23-year-old athlete lifted 135 kilograms in the snatch and 179 kilograms in the clean-and-jerk for a combined score of 314 kilograms.

She is the only Korean weightlifter to win a world championship for two or more years in a row.

China's Mu Shuangshung, who beat Jang in last year's snatch, won the gold again after a neck-and-neck race against her Korean rival this year.

Jang lifted 135 kilograms in the snatch, just one kilogram short of Mu's performance.
