Typhoon Forecast to Hit South Korea This Weekend

Typhoon Shanshan, originating off the coast of Taipai, is forecast to hit South Korea on Saturday, bringing heavy rain and strong winds. Weather agencies predicted that some coastal regions would see up to 120 mm of rain by weekend's end. Jeju Island has already reported 100mm of rain, with Busan reporting 60mm.

According the the Korea Meteological Administration, the typhoon was located 260 km southeast of Taipai early Saturday morning. The southern part of the country is expected to be most affected, with the typhoon moving within 40 km of Busan, then passing into the sea between Korea and Japan by Monday morning.

Shanshan's wind speeds have been measured at 187 kilometers per hour near its center.
