A fourth generation mobile communications technology, at least five times faster than the next generation wireless broadband WiBro, has made its global debut in Korea.
In a forum on Jeju Island Thursday, Samsung Electronics became the first in the world to unveil the technology which processes data at a speed of a hundred mega bits per second on the move and one giga bps at standstill.
Also at the forum, Samsung introduced, the "multi-cell handover" technology which enables nonstop ultra-speed mobile communications service with a transmission speed of a hundred mega bps even inside a train running at 60 kilometers per hour.
With Samsung's global initiation, South Korea is likely to continue its lead in fourth generation wireless communications. The technology will be standardized by 2010 after the frequencies are distributed next year.
