A young Korean American scientist has discovered a clue to suppress the progress of AIDS, the acquired immune-deficiency syndrome.

Daniel Kim on a doctoral course at the Beckman Research Institute in California said Tuesday that he identified the mechanism in which “Argonaute 1” proteins suppress CCR5, essential materials for the AIDS virus to infiltrate human cells.

Kim said that his findings could be used to develop new cures for AIDS.

His study has appeared on the recent online edition of the Nature Structural and Molecular Biology.
