South Korean defender Lee Young-pyo of the English premier league soccer club Tottenham Hotspur will transfer to Italy's AS Rome.

Lee's agent said Tuesday that Tottenham accepted AS Rome's strong request for Lee, a move to strengthen its left wing defense following its entry into the Champions League.

Lee will fly to Italy for a medical check as soon as contract details are finalized.

As a result, Lee will not be playing in Team Korea's Asian Cup qualifier against Iran on September second.
