The southeastern port city of Ulsan has won the right to host the 2009 World Outdoor Archery Championships.

The International Archery Federation on Sunday unanimously chose Ulsan, citing the city's ability to hold international events, sport and lodging facilities, and transportation.

The Croatian city of Zagreb had competed fiercely with Ulsan, but withdrew its bid at the last minute.

South Korea last hosted the event in 1985.

The Korea Archery Association submitted the application to host the event in November last year.
