Referee Donates 2002 World Cup Ball

The nation’s embassy to Egypt says soccer referee Gamal Al-Ghandour has donated the ball that determined the national soccer team’s advancement to the semi-finals in the 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup.

When South Koreans and Spaniards were playing for the ticket to the semi-finals in 2002, Hong Myung-bo made a determining goal with the ball in a penalty shootout.

Gamal, who was refereeing the match, had the ball for four years but decided to return it to South Korean soccer fans.
