County Confident about Olympic Bid

The Pyeonchang committee in charge of bidding for the 2014 Winter Olympics is showing confidence for the evaluation by the International Olympic Committee slated for next February.

A committee official said Monday that Gangwon county will be well prepared for the IOC inspection as long as the government provides active support for the county’s relief work after the recent heavy rains.

The government has decided to spend 50-billion won from the state reserve funds to repair damaged roads, bridges and sports facilities in the area by the year’s end.

The Culture and Tourism Ministry also promised full support to completely restore sports and resort facilities at the Yongpyeong ski resort by the end of October, the main venue for the 2014 Winter Olympics if the county is picked to be host.
