Cloned cows have produced a calf.

The Korea Rural Development Administration said Tuesday that a cloned cow on Monday gave birth to a female calf through artificial insemination using sperms from a cloned bull.

The administration added that the calf born through natural delivery is about 24 kilograms and in good condition.

The cloned cow and bull were born in July and October of 2003 respectively, through somatic cell cloning. The artificial insemination was performed in October last year.

The National Livestock Research Institute, an affiliate of the administration, said that this is the first case in the nation for cloned animals to give birth, which will serve as important data for domestic research on animal cloning.
