Robot Taekwon V Signs Contract with Agency

The Korean animated robot hero of the 1970s, Robot Taekwon V, has signed a contract to work for a domestic entertainment agency, the first for an animated character.

ShinCine, the film producer and distributor that owns the rights to the character, said Monday that Robot Taewon V will appear in commercials, TV programs, musicals and games along with other human performers working for Namoo Actors Agency.

Meanwhile, the animated robot also received the nation’s first robot registration card from the Commerce, Industry and Energy Ministry.

Released in 1976, Robot Taewon V, a feature animation created by Kim Cheong-gi, drew some 180,000 viewers in Seoul alone and placed second in the nation’s box office rankings that year.
