Athens Olympic champion Ryu Seung-min has beat the world's champion Wang Liqin of China in Japan’s pro table tennis league.

Ryu, eighth in the world rankings, defeated Wang 4-2 in the final match of the second round of Super Circuit on Thursday in Okiniwa.

Ryu so far has racked up one win and eight losses against Wang including a defeat in the world team championships last May.

Ryu will play in the third round of the championship in Sapporo this weekend.
