Gov't Retracts Honors from Seven Scientists

The government has taken back state honors given to seven scientists including disgraced stem cell researcher Hwang Woo-suk.

A Cabinet meeting on Tuesday approved the revocation of Orders of Science and Technology Merit given to the seven.

Those losing their honors are MizMedi Women’s Hospital Chairman Roh Sung-il, Seoul National University professors Moon Shin-yong, Kang Sung-geun, Lee Byung-chun and Ahn Cu-rie and Hanyang University professor Hwang Jung-hye.

The government’s latest move comes after a Seoul National University probe and prosecutorial investigations found their major scientific achievements false or fabricated.
