Scientist Clones Female Dogs

Scientists from Seoul National University say they have successfully cloned two female dogs.

A team led by Professor Lee Byung-chun said they cloned the dogs last month by implanting the somatic cell of a 13-month-old Afghan hound in the egg of a dog whose nucleus was removed and implanting the modified embryo in the womb of a surrogate mother dog.

Lee said his team used a nucleus extraction method different from the chopstics-squeezing technique used in the cloning of Snuppy, the world's first cloned dog created in 2005 by a Seoul National University team.

The research team is seeking to have the findings published in a world renowned scientific journal.
