Korea to Launch Multipurpose Satellite

Korea will launch a multi-purpose satellite from a Russian spaceport on July 28.

The Ministry of Science and Technology said Wednesday that the Arirang 2 satellite is scheduled to lift off about eight-hundred kilometers northeast of Moscow from a launch pad in the Plesetsk Cosmodrome.

Equipped with a high-resolution, multi-spectral camera that has a resolution of 1 square meter, the satellite can be used for geographical updates, natural resource searches and environmental observation.

Once the satellite is launched successfully, Korea will have a total of nine satellites.
