Seoul Seeks Friendly Soccer Matches Next Year

The Korea Football Association seeks to hold early next year friendly youth soccer matches among four Asian countries.

President of the association Chung Mong-joon told the Seoul-based Yonhap news agency Wednesday that he proposed holding the event with the two Koreas, China and Japan.

A friendly match between South Korea and Japan youth teams is already scheduled for mid-November in Seoul.

China, as host of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, is a strong advocate for the matches and will make efforts to persuade North Korea to attend the event.

The football association plans to form national teams to attend the Doha Asian Games in December and the 2008 Beijing Olympics as soon as the new soccer coach Pim Verbeekk returns from vacation.
