A team of aerospace engineers has succeeded in testing a new concept air vehicle.
The research team at Seoul National University’s School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, led by Doctor Hwang In-sung, said Thursday that it had successfully tested what it claims is the world's first cycloid blade system-based vehicle.
The team said that the vehicle flew 50 centimeters above the ground for a couple of minutes, however, more research needs to be done before the vehicle can be commercialized.
The vehicle could be used as a reconnaissance plane since it is highly energy-efficient and makes less noise than a helicopter.
The cycloidal blade system is a thrust system that consists of several blades rotating about a horizontal axis perpendicular to the direction of normal flight.
