Written: 2006-06-30 15:43:48Updated: 0000-00-00 00:00:00

The nation from 2011 will face an annual water shortage of 340 million cubic meters.

In a comprehensive plan on water resources issued Friday, the Construction and Transportation Ministry said the cumulative water shortage will rise to 800 million cubic meters due to regional imbalance in water supply and the limited movement of water resources.

Annual water demand is expected to reach 35 billion cubic meters by 2011.

Measures to resolve the expected shortage include redevelopment of reservoirs, seawater desalination and construction of small and medium-size dams.
