The pro baseball team LG Twins has asked Dominican slugger Sammy Sosa to throw the first pitch at a game versus the SK Wyverns next month.

An LG source said Wednesday that the team made the request through the Dominican Embassy in Seoul.

The 37-year-old Sosa, who was born in the Carribbean country, is expected to accompany Dominican President Leonel Fernandez in a three-day visit to South Korea next month.

Hitting 588 career homers, Sosa is one of the greatest sluggers in Major League Baseball history. His playing status is unknown, however, as a team has failed to sign him after the Baltimore Orioles released him last year.
