New Soccer Coach Pledges Best Efforts

New national soccer coach Pim Verbeek has pledged all-out efforts for victory in the Asian Cup next year and a quarter-final advance in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

In a news conference Wednesday at the Korea Football Association, he said South Korea has many talented players that he hopes to develop into great players.

Succeeding Dick Advocaat as the team's fourth Dutch coach after having served as assistant in the 2002 and this year's World Cups, Verbeek said he will combine the offensive style of Dutch soccer with Korean skills.

He will fly to the Netherlands Thursday to watch the rest of the World Cup and spend time with his family.
