The world’s largest container vessel, the New Los Angeles of China Shipping, has arrived in the port of Busan.

Manufactured by Samsung Heavy Industries, the 321-meter-long, 46-meter wide and 62-meter-tall vessel can carry up to 9,600 twenty-foot-containers.

The largest container vessel to arrive in Busan prior to the New Los Angeles was the MSC Pamela, a ship with a 9,200 TEU capacity.

A port official said Wednesday the port will likely see 10,000 TEU vessels in the near future as world-leading shipping companies continue to introduce large container vessels to enhance transportation efficiency and cut costs.

A TEU is a container measurement equal to 20-foot equivalent units.
