Soccer Chief Disputes 2nd Swiss Goal

Korea Football Association President Chung Mong-joon has disputed Switzerland's second goal in the 2-0 win over South Korea that knocked the Taegeuk Warriors out of the World Cup.

Seeing off his national team at Frankfurt International Airport Saturday, Chung expressed deep regret over the controversial referee's call over the goal, saying the linesman clearly lifted the offside flag and that any player would have stopped playing thereafter.

Argentine referee Horacio Elizondo allowed Alexander Frei's goal to stand despite South Korean players stopping after the offside flag was raised.

The call drew the ire of South Korean fans, who cried foul over the decision.

The Associated Press also said the controversial goal scored after the offside flag was lifted sealed Switzerland's advance to the round of 16.

U.S. sports network ESPN said Frei was clearly offside and that play should have stopped when the flag was up.
