Mln Fans to Cheer Soccer Team Outside

More than a million soccer fans nationwide are expected to hit the streets, stadiums and other public places early Saturday to cheer for the national team in its final World Cup Group G game.

Police said Thursday that an estimated 250,000 fans are expected to assemble at Seoul City Plaza, Cheonggye Stream Plaza and in the streets around the downtown area of Gwanghwamun.

More fans are expected to cheer for the team outside Saturday than Monday, as the upcoming game will likely determine whether South Korea qualifies for the second round.

About 700,000 fans took to the streets for cheering nationwide Monday, when South Korea held France to a 1-1 tie.

Police will dispatch 12,000 riot troops to keep order, about 20 percent more than the number for the team's two previous games.
