Switzerland on Monday surpassed South Korea for the lead in Group G of the World Cup soccer finals with a 2-0 win over Togo.
In Dortmund, Germany, Alexander Frei gave the Swiss the lead in the 16th minute after taking a short quick pass from teammate Tranquillo Barnetta in front of the goal and tapping it in.
Barnetta later sealed the win in the 88th minute with a blast just inside the penalty area that hit the far post and into the net.
Despite being eliminated from the tournament, Togo put on a far better offensive show against Switzerland than versus South Korea led by star striker Emmanuel Adebayor.
Several of the players, however, had threatened to boycott the game over a prolonged dispute over bonuses.
South Korea and Switzerland are tied at four points each in the group, but the Swiss have a one point edge in goal difference. Thus Friday's game between the two teams should decide the group winner.
