National soccer team coach Dick Advocaat is expected to step down following the World Cup finals in Germany.

The Korea Football Association says the Dutchman has until Thursday to renew his contract, which expires after the World Cup.

Advocaat has made no comment but foreign media outlets say he will sign with Russian soccer club Zenit St. Petersburg shortly after the finals end on July 9.

Advocaat replaced another Dutchman Jo Bonfrere, who resigned in August in the face of mounting criticism over the team's lackluster performance. Bonfrere’s predecessor, Portuguese coach Humberto Coelho, also quit due to poor results.

South Korea, led by Dutch coach Guus Hiddink, advanced to the semi-finals of the 2002 World Cup it co-hosted with Japan.

Korea is currently atop Group G after winning its World Cup opener against Togo Tuesday. Its second match is against France early Monday, Korean time.
