Police to Prevent Fan Clashes in Germany

The National Policy Agency is seeking to prevent clashes between French and Swiss soccer fans and those from South Korea during and after their World Cup Group G games.

A police official in charge of foreign affairs said Wednesday that more staff could go to Germany as violent European fans are causing problems around stadiums.

The agency has also asked German police to beef up security for South Korean fans there and is devising measures to prevent unfair treatment from police dispatched by France and Switzerland.

The official said police officials dispatched from European countries are empowered to conduct checks and make arrests like German police.
