Domestic researchers have developed a technology allowing the low-cost manufacturing of nanoporous aerogels, a next-generation insulation and soundproof material.

The Korea Institute of Industrial Technology on Tuesday said the material forms numerous air pores, with air molecules occupying 98 percent of volume to provide superior insulation and soundproofing.

The institute said the new material will expedite the commercial application of aerogels and cut energy costs 30 to 50 percent through the development of insulation material using aerogels.
