NK Asks Seoul's Help in WC Broadcast

North Korea wants South Korea to help it receive broadcasts of next month's World Cup finals in Germany.

A Seoul official on Tuesday said the unprecedented request will require negotiations as the World Cup, unlike the Olympics or the East Asian soccer championship, is a professional sports game involving a handsome amount of broadcast fees and advertisement deals.

A domestic firm paid 25 million dollars to a FIFA marketing agent to secure rights to broadcast the World Cup.

The Seoul government will review Pyongyang's request on humanitarian grounds and discuss the matter with FIFA in cooperation with the Korea Football Association.
