A Japanese daily says South Korea, China and Japan will launch a joint study to minimize the adverse effects of red tides in the East China Sea.

The Nihon Keizai Shimbun said Monday that the three nations will share satellite data and jointly monitor red tides over the next three years to find the cause.

The study will comprise scientists from South Korea's National Fisheries Research and Development Institute, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Japan's Institute for East China Sea Research.

Experts have urged the study as the fishing industry in Northeast Asia has recently suffered from increased occurrence of red tide in the East China Sea.
