South Korea's disgraced stem cell researcher Hwang Woo-Suk has expressed hopes to resume his research, Hwang's lawyer said Friday.
Hwang, once called the "pride of Korea" for his landmark papers on stem cell technology, was dismissed from Seoul National University after experts and prosecutors confirmed the papers were based on manipulated data.
In his papers published in the U.S. journal, Science in 2004 and 2005, Hwang claimed to have cloned human stem cells and developed patient-specific stem cells.
Hwang was indicted without physical detention on charges of embezzlement and for allegedly misusing billions of won given to him by public and private donors for his research.
