W40 Bln to Go for Research in South Pole

The government will provide 40 billion won for a five-year research project in the South Pole.

The Science and Technology Ministry said Wednesday the project from next year will study the South Pole's climate, maritime environment, soil and glaciers.

A ministry plan also calls for raising domestic research abilities and infrastructure in polar regions to an advanced level in cooperation with relevant state agencies such as the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ministry.
