Bioengineering Firm, Univ. Set up Cloning Biz

A domestic bioengineering firm will commercialize the cloning of pet dogs through technical cooperation with Seoul National University's School of Veterinary Medicine.

RNL Bio said Monday that it has set up RNL CNS, a stem cell therapy developer, to clone pet dogs and other animals for clinical tests with the veterinary school, which produced the world's first cloned dog "Snuppy" under former professor Hwang Woo-suk.

The new firm will first set up a dogs' somatic stem cell bank for research and development of animal stem cell medicine, and then seek technical cooperation with the school's veterinary team for its cloning project.
