Golf superstar Michelle Wie has taken a big step in her bid to qualify for the men's U.S. Open.

In Hawaii Monday, she won a qualifier by shooting an even-par 72 and will play in a 36-hole sectional on June 5th in New Jersey.

The U.S. Golf Association says it believes Wie is the first woman to win such a qualifier.

Last year, Wie failed to advance in the same qualifier as she finished in a three-way tie for sixth place.
