Breakthrough Reached in Stem Cell Restoration

A domestic team of scientists has developed technology to increase the restoration capacity of stem cells in the body more than 40 times.

Led by medical professor Oh Il-hwan at Catholic University of Korea, the team said Monday that it developed the technology by injecting blood stem cells into the body and raising their restoration capacity.

The team said tests on lab animals showed the injected stem cells restored themselves without causing cancer.

The study recently appeared on the Web site of Blood, the official journal of the American Society of Hematology.
