Link Drawn Between Diabetes, Obesity

Domestic researchers have for the first time explained the connection between diabetes and obesity.

A research team at South Korea's Center of Disease Control and Prevention said Wednesday that two regulators, NFATc4 and ATF3, hamper the formation of the adiponectin hormone, which prevents diabetes.

The team found that an overweight experimental animal with diabetes had elevated levels of NFATc4 and ATF3, which reduced the amount of the diabetes preventing hormone.

Studies so far show that obesity is the biggest factor behind diabetes and that overweight people are eight times as likely to have the disease.

The team projected that the development of a remedy that can inhibit the two regulators would help greatly in the prevention and treatment of obesity-related diabetes.
